Port Angeles – A two-car collision at 8th and Cherry Streets resulted in a pickup truck plowing through the wall of the 8th Street Emporium in Port Angeles Tuesday afternoon.
Police Corporal Jeffery Ordona reports that at around 1:09pm officers and medics arrived on the scene to find that a Chevy pickup had collided with a Honda passenger car before careening into the northwest corner of the Emporium building.
Port Angeles Fire Captain Travis McFarland says 8 people were evaluated by medics but no one was seriously injured.
The Honda was driven by a young woman with an infant and a toddler, and was entering the intersection southbound when the light turned green. The truck was driven by an older male who stated he accidentally ran the red light traveling eastbound. The Honda struck the side of the pickup, causing the truck to veer into the building.
Ordona said City Building Department staff responded to the scene to oversee that the removal of the truck from the building was done as safely as possible, as the building did not appear stable. A private contractor responded to shore up the framing of the old building immediately after the truck was removed by a wrecker.
The driver of the truck was cited for failure to stop for a traffic signal. Police say there were no signs of impairment.
