POULSBO — In Olympic League tennis action in Poulsbo, the Port Angeles Roughriders doubles team of Luke Floodstrom and Nathan Basden advanced to the district tournament, reaching the league championship before falling to North Kitsap 6-2, 2-6, 3-6. The duo will receive a first-round bye at districts. The doubles team of Austin Worthington and Keatyn Hoch also qualified, finishing fourth. In singles play, Tate Alton placed sixth to secure a district spot.

In soccer, the Roughriders defeated Bremerton 3-1. Bremerton scored early at the 1-minute mark, but Kedryn DeScala tied it at the 6th minute, assisted by Sophia Ritchie. Lilly Anne Lancaster gave the Roughriders the lead at the 38th minute with a midfield steal and a powerful shot. Freshman Mariah Traband added an insurance goal in the 60th minute on a Brooke Pierce assist. The Roughriders now face a crucial game against Kingston on Tuesday night at Peninsula College. A win would tie the teams for third place, potentially leading to a coin flip or playoff game for seeding.

In volleyball, the Roughriders swept Bremerton 3-0 for their second win of the season.

In high school football, Sequim (2-2) hosts Bainbridge (4-1) at 7:00 p.m. An upset win would secure the Wolves the No. 4 district playoff spot. Port Angeles travels to Bremerton to face the Knights, with live coverage on KONP Newsradio and streaming at myclallamcounty.com. The Firehouse Grill pre-game show starts at 5:30 p.m., with kickoff at 6:30 p.m.

In other sports action, Sequim’s soccer team faces a tough test against eighth-ranked North Kitsap at 7:00 p.m. The Port Angeles volleyball team hosts Neah Bay at 6:30 p.m., and the Roughriders swim team will compete in the Olympic League meet on Saturday at 8:00 a.m.

In NWAC soccer, the fourth-ranked Pirate men host Shoreline with a noon kickoff on Saturday.

Youth league football championships will also take place Saturday at Civic Field. In the C-squad game, Port Angeles faces Sequim at noon, followed by the B-squad game between Port Angeles and Forks at 2:00 p.m. The A-squad game kicks off at 4:00 p.m., featuring Port Angeles versus Neah Bay.

Eric Johnson and Henry Fors of the Port Angeles B-squad football team are set to take on Forks for the championship Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Civic Field.
