The Port Angeles Roughriders still have a shot at catching 3rd place Kingston with a win tonight and by defeating Kingston in their final matchup

PORT ANGELES — In soccer action tonight, the 4-6 Sequim Wolves travel to Port Angeles to face the 6-5 Roughriders.

In their first meeting, the Wolves took a 2-0 lead with 30 minutes left, but the Roughriders, after a disappointing first half, dominated the rest of the game. They scored a late goal to force overtime, where Lilly Anne Lancaster netted the game-winner. Both goalkeepers, Kalli Grove of Sequim and Kennedy Rognlien of Port Angeles, made crucial saves, with Rognlien’s one-handed diving deflection of a Kiley Winter shot in regulation being a highlight.

Roughriders Head Coach Daniel Horton reflected on his team’s second-half comeback:
“I think it was mostly due to the intensity of a true rivalry game. Sometimes athletes get overhyped, which takes them out of their game plan. Once we settled in and played the way we prepared, things started to go our way. The girls never believed they would lose, even down 2-0. At halftime, they just knew they had to increase the pace, pressure, and effort to come from behind.”

Kickoff is set for 7:15 p.m.

In volleyball action, 8-3 Sequim travels to 1-10 Port Angeles, with the match starting at 6:30 p.m.
