For football fans, if they thought the Bainbridge Spartans were tough on Friday night with their 40-0 halftime lead over the Roughriders, they were right. However, the Squalicum Storm from Bellingham, arriving just in time for the Roughriders’ Homecoming game, may be just as strong, if not stronger, than Bainbridge. The Storm, at 3-3, have faced stiff competition. Their three losses came against defending state champion Anacortes, ranked No. 1 in the AP poll; state powerhouse Archbishop Murphy; and a 36-30 overtime loss to fifth-ranked Lynden last week.
Marcus Nixon of Squalicum, a nationally ranked 3-star recruit, has committed to Eastern Washington, turning down offers from Army and Navy.
Squalicum’s roster includes one of the state’s top players, 3-star recruit Marcus Nixon, a 6’1″, 185-lb running back and defensive back. Against Lynden, Nixon rushed for 216 yards on 16 carries, scoring two touchdowns and throwing for another. Nixon received offers from Army, Navy, and Nevada but committed to Eastern Washington.
Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. Friday night at Civic Field.
Roughriders B squad players Henry Fors and Eric Johnson were featured on the Roughriders VIP Halftime Show Friday night at Civic Field
The Sequim Wolves also have a key home game against Olympic on Friday night. Both teams are 2-1 in league play. Olympic’s only loss was 18-14 to Bainbridge on a controversial scoop-and-score play late in the game. The game will be broadcast on KONP Newsradio.
North Kitsap will play at Bainbridge Friday night. A Bainbridge win would nearly clinch the league championship.
