PORT ANGELES — Firefighters battled an early morning blaze on Sunday that burned a home in the 2900 block of Vinup Street, just east of Port Angeles. Crews from Clallam 2 Fire-Rescue, the Port Angeles Fire Department, and Clallam County Fire District #3 responded under their automatic aid agreement.
Dispatched at 5:39 AM, firefighters saw thick smoke and flames visible from Highway 101 as they approached the scene. They arrived to find a single-wide manufactured home fully engulfed, with fire tearing through the roof.
A resident on the property told the first-arriving captain that the home’s occupant was not inside and had been accounted for. With that confirmation, firefighters launched an interior attack once additional personnel arrived.
Although crews knocked down the fire quickly, the flames left the home heavily damaged. The heat also ignited a neighbor’s fence, but firefighters extinguished it before it could spread. A search of the house confirmed it was empty.
Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the fire. Firefighters stayed on the scene afterward to douse hot spots and prevent rekindling.
No injuries were reported.
