POULSBO — In high school football action last night, the North Kitsap Vikings were too big, too fast, and too good, defeating Sequim 30-7. The Wolves played tough in the first half, trailing 17-0 with 55 seconds left before halftime. Tommy Reandeau scored a late touchdown for Sequim. The Wolves, now 2-1 in league play and 4-2 overall, will host Olympic on Friday night. Bainbridge defeated Olympic 18-14 with a controversial late scoop-and-score play.

In soccer, the 5th-ranked Bainbridge Spartans beat Port Angeles 5-1. Ava Anne Sheahan scored the lone goal for the Roughriders in the 58th minute. Sequim will host North Mason tomorrow at 1:00.

In volleyball, Bainbridge swept Port Angeles 3-0, and Sequim defeated North Mason 3-1.

In swimming, the Bainbridge Spartans handed Port Angeles a rare loss, 117-65. Amayah Nelson won both the 200 and 500 freestyle races, while Lynzee Reid placed first in diving. The Roughriders face a tough meet today at home against North Kitsap, with a 3:00 p.m. start.

In tennis, Port Angeles swept Sequim 7-0. In singles, Luke Flodstrom beat Jack Crecelius 6-2, 6-1. Sky Gelder defeated Lincoln Bear 3-6, 6-4, 7-5. Garrett Buerer won over Mason Rapelje 6-1, 3-6, 7-5. In doubles, Tate Alton and Nathan Basden defeated Isaac McKeen and Sebastian Buhrer 6-0, 6-1. Austin Worthington and Keatyn Hoch beat Zach Post and Adrian Mendez 6-1, 6-2. Carter Gunderson and Grant Butterworth topped Ryan Stites and Ian Baylon 6-0, 6-1. Zach Neff and Carston Siebel beat Bjorn Henrickson and Josh Loucks 6-1, 6-4.

In football tonight, 0-5 Port Angeles faces a tough challenge against 4-1 Bainbridge. The Spartans have dominated their last two games, beating North Mason 42-7 and Bremerton 48-13. Senior quarterback Jack Grant has completed 34 of 54 passes for 657 yards and 5 touchdowns, averaging 19 yards per completion. He’s also rushed for 133 yards, averaging 8 yards per carry, with 3 touchdowns.

Grant’s top target is senior wide receiver Isaiah Beyer, who has caught 18 passes for 400 yards and 5 touchdowns, averaging 22 yards per catch. The Spartans’ running backs, seniors Garrett Goade and Hugh O’Neill, have combined for over 400 rushing yards and 6 touchdowns.

The game will be broadcast live on KONP Newsradio, with the Firehouse Grill pregame show starting at 6:05 p.m., followed by the Roughriders Locker Room Show featuring seniors Richard Peterson and Cyrus Deede. The Dustin Clark Show will follow. During the Roughriders VIP Halftime Show, there will be a live interview with youth league players Henry Fors and Eric Johnson of the Port Angeles B squad, who are 4-0. Oly Archibald and Greg Thomas will provide play-by-play coverage, with kickoff set for 7:00 p.m.
