PORT ANGELES — In swimming action, Sally Coles’ Roughriders continue to break Marine Shoreline wake policies. The Roughriders blew Olympic out of the water, 112-57.
First-place finishers included Brooke St. Luise, Lizzy Shaw, Danika Asgeirsson, and Amayah Nelson, who won both the 200 medley relay and the 200 freestyle relay. Amayah Nelson also won the 200 freestyle, 50 freestyle, and 100 butterfly. Chloe Kay Sanders won the 200 individual medley. Brooke St. Luise took first in the 100 backstroke, and Lizzy Shaw claimed the 100 breaststroke.
For football fans checking out the Olympic League standings—yes, it’s true! The Sequim Wolves (2-0) are tied at the top with Bainbridge (3-0). However, the Wolves’ schedule now becomes more challenging, starting with North Kitsap Thursday night in Poulsbo. While the Wolves had to grind out a 7-6 win over the 0-5 Bremerton team, the Vikings continued their dominant form, defeating Port Angeles 55-13.

Now, the Roughriders face Bainbridge, led by one of the state’s top quarterbacks, 6’1″, 220 lb. senior Jack Grant. Grant has completed 23 of 39 passes for 381 yards and one touchdown. On the ground, he has rushed for 83 yards on 12 carries, averaging seven yards per carry, and scored two touchdowns. Bainbridge defeated North Mason 42-7 on Friday night.

In cross country, former Roughriders Jack Gladfelter and Max Baeder competed at the 8K Cross Country Invitational in Salem, Oregon. Gladfelter, representing Corban College, finished 7th out of 281 runners, setting a personal best of 23:59 for the 8K. He now holds the 5th fastest time in the nation for NAIA cross-country athletes. Max Baeder from Evergreen State College finished 78th, with a personal best of 25:46. Their next race is October 19 at the Linfield Invite in Independence, Oregon.
In tennis action today, the Roughriders will host Olympic, and Sequim will host Bainbridge. Both matches start at 4:00 p.m.
Former Roughrider three-sport star Joel Thomas, now the running backs coach for the New York Giants, proudly boasts a 5-0 record against Seattle, as the running backs coach for both the New Orleans Saints and the Giants.
