LOCAL SPORTS: PA splashes past Kingston and East Jefferson; soccer and football news

PORT ANGELES — The Roughriders swim team defeated Kingston 138-29 and East Jefferson 127-44. The Roughriders won all three relays.

The team swept the 200 freestyle with Amayah Nelson taking first place, Danika Asgeirsson finishing second, and Lizzy Shaw in third. They also swept the 100 butterfly, with Chloe Kay Sanders winning the event, Danika Asgeirsson finishing second, and Mia Francis placing third.

Brooke St. Luise won both the 100 freestyle and the 100 breaststroke, while Amayah Nelson claimed victory in the 100 backstroke.

In NWAC soccer action, the nation’s fifth-ranked, undefeated Peninsula men’s team (8-0) beat Shoreline 3-1. Ezrah Ochoa, Koya Timora, and Edwin Diaz all scored goals. The Pirates will travel to Bellevue on Wednesday.

Each victory for the Sequim Wolves football team raises the stakes for their next game. After pulling away from the Roughriders in the second half for a 27-7 win, the Wolves and Bainbridge remain the only two undefeated teams in the league. The Wolves face another “pretenders or contenders” game this Friday night at Bremerton. The Knights are 0-4, averaging just 7 points per game while giving up 29.

The Wolves, now 3-1 overall and 1-0 in league play, are averaging 26 points per game while allowing 19. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. Friday night, and the game will be broadcast live on KONP Newsradio.

The Roughriders, seeking more offensive production, will play at 1-3 North Kitsap. The Vikings may be back on track, having beaten previously undefeated North Mason 35-14.

In tennis action, the Roughriders are traveling to Bremerton today with the first serve scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
