PORT ANGELES – A man and a woman were arrested Monday in Port Angeles after barricading themselves in a garage in a standoff with police.

Deputy Police Chief Jason Viada told KONP that at about 8:15 AM, Officers responded to an incident involving a wanted violent fugitive who had armed himself with an axe and a machete and barricaded himself in a garage near 6th and Francis. Officers learned that a woman who was also wanted for an unrelated arrest warrant was in the garage with the suspect. The woman was arrested at about 9:25 AM. Viada said she was questioned and released.

Viada said in an attempt to encourage a peaceful surrender, Officers used tactics including a team of negotiators and chemical munitions.  At about noon, the suspect cut a hole in the roof of the garage, and exited the garage through the hole as part of an attempt to escape. He was arrested immediately, and will be booked after medical clearance.

We will update this story with the names of the suspects and potential charges as they become available.
