LOCAL SPORTS: PA dominates in season opener tennis match

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Roughrider tennis team dominated their season opener at North Mason, sweeping the Bulldogs 7-0.
In singles action, Tate Allen went 2-0 with wins of 6-1, 6-1. Sky Gelder was perfect, winning 6-0, 6-0. Garrett Buerer also secured a 6-0, 6-0 victory.
In doubles action, Nathan Basden and Luke Flodstrom won 6-0, 6-1. Keatyn Hoch and Austin Worthington triumphed 6-1, 6-1. Carter Gunderson and Grant Butterworth won 6-0, 6-0, while Zach Neff and Carston Siebel also finished with a 6-0, 6-0 win.

There is NWAC soccer action tonight as the No. 1-ranked Peninsula Pirates women take on the eighth-ranked Skagit Valley Cardinals in Mount Vernon. Kickoff is set for 5:15 p.m.
The No. 1-ranked Peninsula men will kick off against 10th-ranked Skagit Valley after the women’s game.

In high school football action this Friday night, the Port Angeles Roughriders, facing a tough schedule for the rest of the season, will look to regain confidence after a difficult game against Mount Baker. The Roughriders will travel to Forks for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff. Forks lost to Sequim last Friday, 35-26.

The Roughriders will have their home opener next Friday night against a North Mason team that blew out Klahowya 37-6. The Bulldogs are now coached by former WSU All-Pac-12 offensive lineman John Fullington, who also played for the Bulldogs.

The Sequim Wolves will host the Franklin Pierce Cardinals Friday night at 6:30 p.m. You can hear that game on Newsradio KONP.
