Olympic National Park and Forest banning all campfires

PORT ANGELES — Starting Friday, Olympic National Park and Olympic National Forest will ban all campfires, including charcoal, due to hot and dry conditions. This restriction extends to the coastal areas of the park.

Pressurized or bottled liquid fuel stoves, lanterns, and heating devices are allowed if there is no flammable material within three feet, and they must have an on-off switch or valve to extinguish the flame. Visitors are urged to use extreme caution with any open flame.

Fireworks are always prohibited on federal public lands. Check for fire restrictions before camping, tow safely, maintain vehicles to prevent sparks, dispose of cigarette debris properly, and report fires by dialing 911.
