SEQUIM — A man was arrested Wednesday after a high-speed chase from Port Angeles to Sequim on U.S. Highway 101.

The incident began when police responded to a report of erratic behavior outside a bank branch on East First Street. According to police, an officer spoke with the man, who then jumped into the driver’s seat of his car. To prevent the man from driving under the influence of drugs, the officer used his baton to break the driver’s window. However, the suspect managed to drive away eastbound on First Street.

A chase ensued, reaching speeds of up to 100 mph. It ended near the U.S. Highway 101/Sequim Avenue exit when the suspect’s car spun out. Despite the spin-out, the suspect continued to try to drive his car but was blocked in by patrol cars and removed from the vehicle. He was arrested after officers used a Taser and empty-hand tactics. The suspect was transported by ambulance to the hospital in Port Angeles and cleared for incarceration.

Twenty-nine-year-old Steven Huseman was booked into the county jail on charges of DUI, hit and run, obstructing and eluding law enforcement, and resisting arrest.
