PORT ANGELES — Tonight (7/12) starts the full closure of Highway 101 west of Port Angeles.

For the next nine days the highway will be closed so crews can finish work on the new Elwha River bridge.

Starting at six tonight, the highway will remain closed until 5 am on July 22nd.

Traffic will be re-routed along state Highway 112 and state Highway 113.

Meantime, Washington State Department of Transportation maintenance crews will cut back trees, clear brush, and repair guardrails around Lake Crescent during that same week. The work will take place from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Thursday.

Two crews will be active each day, one starting at milepost 221 and moving east, the other starting at milepost 231 and moving west. Traffic will be alternated by flaggers at work zones, with stops up to 30 minutes and pilot car escorts through each zone.
