PORT ANGELES – Josiah Hill, former emergency department physician at Olympic Medical Center, was sentenced Monday to 364 days of jail with 184 days suspended for two years. Hill was taken into custody and will serve 180 days in jail with credit for one day previously served.

According to court documents, the 41-year-old Hill sexually assaulted six women over the course of eighteen months while serving as their attending physician. Each patient had sought treatment at Olympic Medical Center’s emergency department where Hill then groped and fondled the woman under the guise of treating them. At least part of the activity was reportedly recorded on hospital surveillance video.

Hill’s conduct came to light after multiple women gave separate statements to Port Angeles Police investigators. After charges were filed, additional patients came forward.

Hill was arrested in July of 2022. Shortly after, the Washington Department of Health suspended his license.

The Clallam County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office originally charged Hill with multiple felony offenses. Those were later amended to six gross misdemeanor counts as part of a plea agreement. A significant factor for the prosecution was the impact of the trial on the survivors and the desire to avoid revictimization.

The suspended days will not be imposed so long as Hill complies with court-imposed conditions. Among the conditions is a requirement that Hill complete a forensic assessment specifically designed for medical providers who have engaged in sexual misconduct.
