MARION, IN — Former Port Angeles Roughrider cross country and distance running standout Jack Gladfelter will be competing in the 5000-meter semi-finals this Thursday at the NAIA Nationals in Marion, Indiana. The race will start at 7:15 EST. Gladfelter qualified for the 5000-meter Nationals by running a 14:37.37 at the Lewis & Clark College Invitational on April 12th. This was the second-fastest time in Corban College history. Gladfelter earned Academic All-American honors this past fall by competing in the cross-country Nationals and maintaining a GPA of 3.25 in his first semester at Corban.

At the State Golf Tournament in Liberty Lake, three local golfers have made it to the final round today. Ava Johnson of Sequim earned a 36th place finish, shooting a 96. Claire Osterberg of Port Angeles finished 32nd, shooting a 94. Nate Anderson of Port Angeles had a great day, shooting a 76 for 9th place and has a strong chance of finishing on the podium.

Other golfers who had great seasons but did not make it to the second round were Emily Post, who shot a 100, Raimey Brewer, who shot a 109, and Autumn Wilson-Rowland of Port Angeles, who shot a 114. For the Port Angeles boys, Sky Gelder shot an 87, Max Gagnon shot a 90, and Reid Schmidt shot a 91.

Cooper Disque of the Olympic Peninsula Rowing Association finished the spring season with a strong showing at the U.S. Rowing Northwest Youth Championships. In Friday’s time trials, Cooper had the 11th fastest time among 21 competitors in the U17 men’s singles, putting him in Saturday’s B Final. On Saturday, Cooper finished 5th with a time of 8:07.07 over the 2000-meter course. In total, there were 638 entries representing 30 clubs from around the Northwest.

The Peninsula Pirates men’s basketball team picked up a local talent who played a year for the club team Kings U18 from Okinawa, Japan. Isaiah Lopez is a 6’2″ guard who played locally for the prestigious club team Elite Prep out of Issaquah. Lopez also excels in the classroom with a 4.14 GPA and an SAT score of 1,370.
