PORT ANGELES –

“Audio: Men crashing about their office shouting “PARKOUR!”.

Fans of the TV show “The Office” might remember the episode that opens with the cast tearing up the office as they perform the sport of parkour, shouting the word every time they made a move.

In that spirit, the Port Angeles Food Bank is hosting a Memorial Day Weekend fundraiser this Saturday, a parkour pub crawl through the pedestrian core of Port Angeles. And because participants will be moving from one drinking establishment to the next as a group, the event is being called “Barkour”.

Oxford Languages defines parkour as “the activity or sport of moving rapidly through an area, typically in an urban environment, negotiating obstacles by running, jumping, and climbing.” And in The Office, “Jim” explains that the goal of parkour “is getting from Point A to Point B as creatively as possible”

Players meet at The New Moon Craft Tavern on Lincoln Street at 7 pm Saturday for drink tickets and first drinks before parkouring with the group to Angeles Brewing, then to The Roosevelt, and finally to Barhop on Railroad Ave. to end the night.

Neil Dexter came up with the idea. He’s the Food Bank’s Culinary Program Manager and Chef.

“If they show up on time, we’ll have T-shirts with QR codes on them that take people to a donation page. If not, we’ll print out some stuff and have signage while we run around. So, we’re just trying to also highlight and support local businesses that we think would appreciate support.”

Barkour tickets are $60 and cover joining the event and a drink at each location. Tickets are available online right up until the event at https://secure.givelively.org/event/port-angeles-food-bank/barkour-2024.

Money raised goes to the Port Angeles Food Bank.

“WHOO-HOO! PARKOUR!”
