PORT ANGELES – The City of Port Angeles has received reports of people contacting residents at their home to talk about their electric meters. These people have approached several City utility customers, attempting to discuss electric meter and solar power installation.
City officials say these people are not City employees. The City does not solicit utility customers door-to-door to sell or replace electric meters or solar power products. They say this is a scam and is not to be trusted.
While it is common for City Meter Readers to enter the properties of utility customers to check electric meters, all City Meter Readers carry identification and use official vehicles marked with the City of Port Angeles logo. Legitimate City employees will never solicit customers to sell a product.
If you are approached by someone attempting to discuss electric meter and solar power installation, do not allow them into your home and do not give out any personal information or credit card information. Please call the Public Works & Utilities Department at 360-417-4800 or the Port Angeles Police Department Non-Emergency Line at 360-452-4545 to report any suspicious activity.
