PORT ANGELES – Work to fix the pavement on bumpy Marine Drive in Port Angeles will start next week. City Manager Nathan West says crews are expected to begin the project on Monday, repairing the road after it was torn up as part of a wastewater piping project last year.

“Starting May 20th, you’ll see preliminary work being done. There’ll be some patchwork as well as covering the old force main trench that was done last year, but basically preliminary work,” said West.

Then, Lakeside Industries will come in June to put a new paved surface on the stretch of Marine Drive between the Truck Route and Hill Street.

West says they had hoped to do the resurface work earlier.

“At the end of the day, it has very much been about improving our wastewater system. But knowing we were going to have to come back over, last year we did attempt to come back and do the repaving. But ultimately, the bids came in very high, and we were more successful this year, getting bids that were affordable and moving forward with the repaving,” said West.

The city accepted a contract with Lakeside Industries for just under $810,000 to do the resurfacing.
