PORT ANGELES —  One person is dead after an officer-involved shooting in downtown Port Angeles.

It happened just before 10:00 a.m. today, May 3, 2024 near the Chase Bank branch at the intersection of First and Laurel Streets.

Police were initially called to reports of a possible robbery. Police say there are no additional suspects in connection with the incident and there are no reported injuries to any officers.

However, the scene remains active as law enforcement officers continue their investigation. As a precautionary measure, authorities have closed off Front Street between Lincoln Street and Oak Street, as well as Laurel Street between First Street and Railroad Avenue. Westbound traffic on Front Street is being re-routed to Lincoln Street to get to Highway 101. This detour is expected to be in place through Friday night.

Clallam County Sheriff Brian King and Port Angeles Police Chief Brian Smith will jointly address the media at 3 p.m. today to provide further details on the incident.
