SEQUIM — The Sequim City Council has a new member.

On Monday night, the council voted to appoint Nicole Hartman to fill the position vacated by former Mayor Tom Ferrell, who resigned in March for personal reasons.

Hartman will serve until the results of the November 2025 election are certified and voters will decide who will complete the term ending December 31, 2027.  The City Council made their decision after interviewing seven candidates, and she was sworn into office by Acting City Clerk Heather Robley at the meeting.

Hartman works for Clallam County PUD, where she has served as Communications and Government Relations Manager since 2017, and served as the PUD Executive Assistant from 2008 to 2017. She is active in the Sequim Sunrise Rotary Club where she currently serves as President.

We asked Hartman about her priorities as the newest member of the Sequim City Council.

“Well, personally, I can see that water issues everywhere are going to be problematic, and that’s something we need to be keeping an eye on. But, we also have growth issues where there’s development, people are concerned with losing the small-town charm, and the farms. And growth is inevitable, but we just need to be able to manage it responsibly so we keep that community feel to it. So I’m excited about the opportunity to serve and be a part of the future of Sequim.”
