PORT ANGELES — The Peninsula Pirate men’s basketball team ended their non league schedule yesterday with a hard fought 77-75 win over Highline in Burien.

Pirate 6’3″ sophomore guard Javon Ervin, out of Tacoma, was on fire hitting for 32 points. Ervin received high praise from Pirates head coach Bryce Jacobsen.

“Javon had a great game, he has been growing and getting better and better. He has great talent and great work ethic. He is a pleasure to coach,” said Jacobsen.

Esa Onakpoma added 21 points. The Pirates are now 7-7 on the season. The Pirates will open up NWAC Northern Conference play at home this Wednesday against Whatcom.  The women will tip off at 5 pm the men at 7 pm.

In high school action, the Sequim Wolves girls improved to 6-2 and 4-1 in league beating 8-3 Kingston 51-41.

The Wolves jumped out to a 24-2 lead at the end of the 1st Quarter. Wolves head coach Joclin Julmist gave a lot of playing time to his bench players and Kingston outscored Sequim 26-18 in the 2nd half. Freshman Gracie Chartraw led the Wolves with 18 points. Jolene Vaara hit for 14 points. Dani Herman scored 8 points in the paint. Libby Turella scored 6 points and Bobbie Mixon scored 5 points.

The Wolves travel to Olympic Tuesday night to take on the Trojans, 2-3 in league play, with a 7 pm tip off. You can hear that game on Newsradio KONP with the pre-game show at 6:45. Oly Archibald will have the play by play.

The Roughrider girls blew a 15-point lead at North Kitsap then came from behind in the final seconds to tie the game and then earned the 46-43 win in OT.

The Roughriders 4-1 6-6 will host Kingston tomorrow night at 7.

The Roughrider boys (3-2, 7-4) played a great 1st half against North Kitsap trailing by one point at the half. The Roughriders ran out of gas in the 2nd half losing to the Vikings 69-49. The Roughriders will travel to Kingston tomorrow night for a 7 pm tip off.

The Sequim Wolves (2-3, 6-4) knocked off Kingston 58-50. The Wolves will host Olympic tomorrow night at 7 pm.
