PORT ANGELES – The city of Port Angeles will use opioid settlement money to buy two new vehicles for the fire department.

The city plans to use no more than 147-thousand dollars to purchase two new Ford F150 4-wheel drive pickup trucks. They’ll come from a Ford dealership out of Longview through the state’s purchasing cooperative. The new trucks will also be equipped for emergency response.

The vehicles will replace a 20-year-old SUV that wasn’t emergency response capable. They’ll be used primarily for the city’s community paramedic program. The city council agreed to use the settlement money as a tool for helping fund the program and officials say this will serve as an alternative response to opioid overdoses.
