LOCAL SPORTS: Roughrider boys swimmers splash to good start

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Roughriders boys swimming season is underway, and Sally Cole appears to have another All-star roster. The Roughriders placed first in all 11 events, sinking Bremerton 125-35. Winning their events were: Colby Ellefson in the 200 intermediate and 500 freestyle; Thomas Jones in the 200 Freestyle and 100 Butterfly; Nolan Medgin in the 50 freestyle and the 100 breaststroke; Edward Gillespie in the 100 freestyle; and Finn Thompson in the 100 backstroke.

In the 200 medley relay, it was Jenson Wolf, Edward Gillespie, Eli Warren and Killian Waknitz. In the 200 freestyle, it was Finn Thompson, Nolan Medgin, Thomas Jones and Colby Ellefson.. In the 400 freestyle, it was Thomas Jones, Colby Ellefson, Finn Thompson and Nolan Medgin.

There is high school bowling action at Laurel Lanes today. The Roughriders (6-2) host North Mason at 2:45 pm. The Sequim Wolves (3-5) host Klahowya at 3 pm.

The Roughrider girls basketball team (1-1) will host 0-2 Bremerton tonight at 7 pm.

Former Roughrider Eve Burke, now playing at Linfield College in Oregon, is having a great season. In her last game, a 63-46 win over Lewis & Clark College, Burke hit for 13 points and pulled down 10 rebounds. The week before, Burke hit for 14 points against PLU. Burke is starting and averaging 7 points per game and 7 rebounds per game. The Wildcats are 4-3 overall with a 2-0 conference record. It is the best conference start for the Wildcats since the 2005-2006 season.

Former Roughrider Eve Burke is having a solid season at Linfield College

Former Roughrider Jim Michalczik, who just finished his 6th year as the offensive line coach at Oregon State University, will leave Corvallis and follow Head Coach Jonathan Smith to East Lansing, Michigan to be the offensive line coach of the Michigan State Spartans.
