SEQUIM – With all the buzz surrounding the movie version of The Boys In The Boat, the true story of Sequim’s own Joe Rantz and his quest for gold at the 1936 Summer Olympics, the Sequim Sunrise Rotary is launching a fundraising campaign for the Joe Rantz House, an innovative concept that provides homeless teens in our area with a safe home, counseling, mentoring, internships, and caring adults to interact with and learn from. After high school, it will help them transition to college or trade school.

The Sunrise Rotary is hosting a “Tribute to Joe Rantz” on December 8. They’re billing it as a once-in-a-lifetime event that will include a private screening of “The Boys in the Boat”, two-and-a-half weeks before its official debut in theaters, scheduled for Christmas Day. The screening will be followed by a Tapas Dinner Party at the Sequim Museum.

This is the start of a fundraising effort. Overall, the club hopes to raise $750,000 to fund the project. And if you can’t attend, there are other ways to donate whatever you wish to honor Joe Rantz.

MGM Studios has provided the Sunrise Rotary Club with this courtesy screening of “The Boys in the Boat” in response to requests from Sequim High School students.

For further details on attending this event and making a donation, you can call Brown Maloney at KONP Radio. The phone number is (360) 457-1450.
