Port Angeles – Following preliminary results from a maintenance inspection, the City of Port Angeles announced Tuesday the immediate closure of the Viewing Tower at City Pier.
Early findings from the inspection, conducted by Sargent Engineers on November 8th and 9th, indicate structural failures that pose serious risk to public safety and the safety of surrounding property.
The Viewing Tower and portions of City Pier will remain closed while the City awaits the official technical report and implements necessary repairs.
Safety fencing was being placed in the area west of the tower structure Tuesday.
City officials said public safety is their top priority, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
