SPOKANE — If soccer fans on the west side of the Cascades were wondering how good the high school teams are on the east side, unfortunately for west side fans the east took it to the west yesterday.

In Spokane, #1 seed West Valley of Spokane beat #16 seed Port Angeles 8-0. At least the Roughriders held West Valley to their average of 8 goals per game. The Roughriders finish a great season with a 11-7 record and return most of the team back next year.

The other game played yesterday was #13 seed Sammamish taking on #4 seed East Valley of Yakima. Sequim just beat Sammamish 3-2 in overtime for 3rd place in the district tournament. It was anything but a close game as East Valley blew out Sammamish 12-0.

The #10 seed Sequim Wolves (13-4) travel to #7 seed Ridgefield (16-3) today to take on a good Spudder team at 5 pm. The Spudders losses were twice to Columbia River 1-0 and a loss to Tumwater 2-0. The Spuders have outscored their opponents 75-6. The Wolves have outscored their opponents 63-17. By the way, the nick name for Ridgefield middle school, the Tater Tots of course!

Former Roughrider cross country star Jack Gladfelter is already getting national acclaim. Gladfelter placed 5th at his conference meet and had the fastest time for a freshman. Corbin College is ranked 17th in the Nation for NAIA schools. Gladfelter will compete in the Nationals on November 17th at Fort Vancouver.
