FIFE — It’s day two of the high school district soccer playoffs. The #5 seed Sequim Wolves (12-3), who are already qualified for the state tournament, have a semifinal match up with the #1 seed 19-0 Fife Trojans. How good are the Trojans?  Sequim’s earlier district playoff opponent Enumclaw had outscored their opponents 56-6. The Fife Trojans outscored their opponents 99-1. It should be noted that the Trojans toughest games were against Enumclaw. Fife won those two games 2-1 and 2-0. As one Sequim parent said,” Fife is so good it’s like they have three Taryn Johnsons on that team”.  The winner will play for the district championship Saturday at 2 pm, the loser will play for 3rd and 4th at Noon. Both games are at Sammamish High School. The other semifinal teams are #2 seed North Kitsap and #3 seed Sammamish.

The Port Angeles Roughriders (9-6) will travel to Highline in Burien to take on the 10-6-1 Pirates in a loser out game. The winner will play the winner of the #4 seed Enumclaw – #13 seed Franklin Pierce winner on Saturday for a loser-out and winner-to-state game.

The volleyball district tournament opens tomorrow night with the #7 seed Sequim Wolves taking on #2 seed North Kitsap at Foster High School with the first serve at 6 pm. The #16 seed Roughriders will take on #9 seed Orting at 6 pm at Sammamish High School in a loser-out game.

In football action tomorrow night, Sequim will host Fife in a final non-league contest with the kickoff at 7 pm.

The Port Angeles Roughriders will finish up their final preparations today for their district playoff match with Franklin Pierce tomorrow night at Cardinal Stadium in Parkland with the kickoff at 7 pm. Be sure to catch an outstanding 90-minute pre-game show starting at 5:30 pm. The show begins with Roughrider Hall of Famer and current New Orleans Saints running back coach Joel Thomas. Coach Thomas gives his opinion on student athletes working out in the weight room, one-sport athletes, student athletes playing on club travel teams, and coaching and playing in the Rose Bowl and the NFL playoffs.

Thomas talk will be followed by the “Dustin Clark Show”. Then we will look at football and living with the three Flores boys: Tanner, River and Hunter. The three brothers talk about fighting for their dinner, hunting, fishing and about their very special mother. The final segment we will go back in time with the voice of Civic Field and Roughrider Gymnasium, Public Adress Announcer Pete Rennie who has been the voice of the Roughriders for over the last two decades. Pete will talk about some of the great Roughrider teams and players he has seen while behind the mic.

It’s a big day at Peninsula College on Saturday as the Pirates soccer teams host a quarter final double header. The Pirate women kickoff at Noon against North Idaho and the Pirate men kickoff at 2:15 against Clark. The winners will advance to the final four.
