PORT ANGELES – The City of Port Angeles and Clallam County both revised their burn bans on Wednesday.

In the City, recreational fires, using seasoned firewood, are permitted with the following requirements:

  • Pile size shall not exceed 3’ diameter and two feet in height
  • Fire shall be located a minimum 25’ from a structure unless contained in a barbeque pit
  • Recreational fires shall be constantly attended with means of extinguishment

Clallam County Fire Marshal George Bailey announced that a county-wide burn ban has been modified to permit campfires in established fire rings on private property and in campgrounds. He said the fire danger in general for Clallam County remains high, and people should be extremely careful.

The decision was made based on recommendations of the local fire districts as weather conditions have slightly eased the fire danger in Western Washington, but the yard debris burn ban will remain in effect until further notice.
