PORT ANGELES – The Bekkevar family has been awarded this year’s Clallam County “Family Farm of the Year”.
The announcement and presentation were made yesterday on the first day of the Clallam County Fair.
The Bekkevar Family Farm was established in Little Michigan, Eastern Clallam County, in 1910 by Olaf Bekkevar. It has stayed in the family through multiple generations. Currently Dave and Jim, continue to work the farm; putting up hay, raising beef, and restoring tractors. Over the years they have had other livestock and crops, but always planned to pass the farm on to their own children one day.
The Bekkevar’s were noted for hosting farm tours, FFA and 4-H events, adn displaying hay art in the field for travellers to enjoy as they pass the farm along Highway 101.
