PORT ANGELES – The Clallam County Facilities Department is about to undertake two capital projects that will cut off access to the county courthouse main entrance along Fourth Street for several weeks.

Beginning this Thursday, August 17th, access to the courthouse will be rerouted through the Sheriff’s Entrance on the east side of the building. The Sheriff’s Entrance door will be propped open from 8:00am – 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday. Signs will be posted directing the public to that access point. At the end of the project’s initial three to four weeks, access through the main entrance will be restored.

The project includes removing and replacing a significant portion of the existing concrete sidewalks, curbs, and landscaping.

Don Crawford from the Parks Department explains the reason for the upgrades.

“The concrete is pitted out and there’s a bunch of brick inlay that have popped out. And so, it’s for upgrading safety as well as security.”

Crawford says the kiosk at the entrance will be permanently removed. The project also provides for installing several lighted bollards along the vehicular roundabout curb and additional landscape lighting for building security.

While that’s going on, also starting Thursday, the first eight parking spaces adjacent to Fourth Street will be fenced off to install a new electrical car charging station.

This project’s scope includes removing and replacing the existing asphalt to install six EV ports.
