SEQUIM — Authorities say a massive, fatal explosion in the Dungeness area Tuesday was an accident.
Clallam County Undersheriff Ron Cameron says the coroner is still not ready to officially name the man found dead in the remains of the house that blew up and burned at 132 June Place west of Sequim.
Cameron says investigators from his office and the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms sifted through the scene and found no evidence foul play was involved. However, investigators have not yet determined what caused the explosion heard dozens of miles away.
The explosion happened about 7 pm Tuesday. The residence was leveled and several neighboring homes were damaged in the blast. Emergency dispatch received more than 100 calls about the explosion heard from as far west as Freshwater Bay.
