PORT ANGELES – Clallam PUD is declaring an emergency on one of its Port Angeles-area water systems
Water customers in the Upper Fairview Water System are being asked to begin voluntary water conservation measures. It’s a Stage 2 Response from the District’s Drought Response Plan.
Water for the upper Fairview Water System is primarily supplied from Morse Creek. Based on streamflow data collected by the Department of Ecology, the PUD predicts that Morse Creek streamflow will drop to 25 cfs within 2 weeks. This flow forecast, coupled with an early snowpack melt in the Olympic Mountains, triggers the criteria for a Stage 2 Drought Response Water Alert.
As a result of low flows in Morse Creek, the District is preparing to pump groundwater from wells in the lower Fairview Area to supply the upper Fairview area. The PUD is asking upper Fairview customers to voluntarily reduce their overall water usage to mitigate the added demand on these wells. The upper Fairview Water System includes the following PUD water service location areas:
- South of Blue Jay Place off Deer Park Rd.
- South of Chambers Rd. off O’Brien Rd.
- South of Bagley Bluff Trail off S. Bagley Creek Rd.
- Phillips Parkway
- Sutter Rd.
