OLYMPIC NATIONAL PARK – We have another happy ending coming out of Olympic National Park when another overdue solo hiker emerged from the park unscathed on Tuesday.
Friends of Kayla Reynolds posted on social media that the experienced hiker, backpacker and mountaineer had left from the Royal Basin trailhead on Saturday with the intention of summiting Mount Deception on Sunday. They said Reynolds set off her emergency beacon at some point on Sunday after encountering a snowstorm.
At that point, her last known location was close to the Gray Wolf River.
Amos Almy with Olympic National Park told KONP that a search had begun for Kayla Reynolds on Tuesday, but the park received word that she had met up with some hikers in the area and was able to hike out, ending the search.
Reynolds’ brother confirmed that she was able to place a phone call to him, that she is uninjured and looking forward to eating the vegan burger of her dreams.
