PORT ANGELES – The Port of Port Angeles Commissioners are holding a special meeting Tuesday to discuss what they’re going to do after Port Director Geoff James announced his resignation on Friday.
Port Commissioner Connie Beauvais told KONP that James came back from vacation and announced he was resigning. She did not know the reason for his leaving so suddenly, but praised James’ performance since taking the job just over 2 years ago.
James took over the directorship following the semi-retirement of Karen Goschen. He joined the Port after a 34-year career in the Navy that included high level leadership positions with NATO, Executive Officer on nuclear submarines and as the Commanding Officer of the TRIDENT Training Facility in Bangor, Washington.
Beauvais said the commission will discuss Tuesday who will be appointed Interim Executive Director as they begin the process of deciding how they will fill the vacancy at the top.
The previous process was a 5-month, nationwide search.
