The state’s 6th ranked Port Angeles Roughrider fast pitch team is ready for their traditional trip to Selah for the State Tournament. The Roughriders take on the #11 seed Cedarcrest Red Wolves of the rugged 2A-3A WESCO League. In the other bracket, there are two familiar foes, one is the #3-seed Ridgefield Spudders. The Roughriders beat the Spudders in the first game at state last year when Roughrider 2nd basemen Peyton Rudd hit a dramatic walk off homer in the 8th inning to win it.
The Spudders have been ranked in the top 3 in the state for most of the season. They returned their entire team, and all 4 of their losses were against Class 3A teams. Ridgefield plays #14-seed East Valley of Yakima at 9 am. The Roughriders beat East Valley early in the season 12-10 in Bellevue.
In other games involving Olympic League teams: at 11 am #12 seed Olympic plays #5 seed Othello and #1 seed North Kitsap plays #16 seed R.A. Long.
KONP Newsradio will broadcast all the Roughrider games.
