Port Angeles – Clallam 2 Fire-Rescue is going to conduct a live fire training at a donated house this Saturday and Sunday.
The house address is 141 Harry Brown Road, west of Port Angeles. The owners of the property donated the house specifically for the purpose of training.
During the live fire training there will be smoke in the area just south of the Cameron Road/Highway 101 intersection. There will also be an increase in emergency vehicle traffic as crews shuttle water and personnel to the scene.
Fire Chief Jake Patterson said, “These types of training are invaluable to our firefighters and gives them the chance to practice their skills in a controlled, real fire environment. Washington State guidelines require all structural firefighters to participate in live fire training or incidents once every three years. Clallam 2 Fire-Rescue has invited our neighboring fire agencies of Clallam County Fire District #4, the Port Angeles Fire Department, and Clallam County Fire District #3 to also participate in the training. This gives our crews a good opportunity to work closely with our fire agency partners who we can expect to work with during real emergency incidents. We apologize for any inconvenience this training may present but are appreciative to the community for their support of your firefighters and understanding as we take advantage of this great training opportunity.”
At the conclusion of the live fire training on Sunday, the home will be burned to the ground. That phase of the burn is expected to happen around mid-day and will create a large column of smoke that will be visible in the surrounding area and from Highway 101.
Fire crews will be on hand to make sure it’s done safely.
