PORT ANGELES – Police in Port Angeles recovered the body of a man in the downtown area Thursday morning. Police Chief Brian Smith called us with this report.

“So, at about 9:54 this morning, police and fire units were dispatched to the Gateway Transit Center. The report was a male found inside one of the portable restrooms who was apparently deceased. Officers arrived, confirmed, in fact, there was a male who had been inside a portable restroom for a period of time and deceased. Examination of the scene indicated a possibility of an overdose, with paraphernalia and some other packaging materials. Tentative identity has been established by officers, and we’re still working through the notification of next of kin. So, we’re not releasing a name. We don’t have any other facts or evidence to tell us what might have happened.”

Chief Smith says they are reviewing security footage from the transit center, and the coroner is working to establish cause and manner of death.
