Port Angeles – If you live in Port Angeles, chances are you already know that Erickson Playfield is an outstanding facility. But now, it seems the word has spread.
The Parks & Recreation Department announced Wednesday that Erickson Playfield has been selected to receive the 2023 Spotlight Award for Facilities from the Washington Recreation & Parks Association (WRPA).
It’s a prestigious award for anyone in the parks and rec community, recognizing the highest standards in design, development, and renovation of parks.
The park’s major features include the skate park, the brand new pump track and Dream Playground, the calisthenics park, and four tennis courts.
Parks and Recreation Director Corey Delikat says there are hundreds of people and businesses that made this happen.
“There is a lot of people to thank. And really, we’ve been able to do what we do because of partnerships, and being creative, and someone coming to the table and saying, ‘hey, the city just can’t do everything for everybody. But what we can do is partner together and make cool things happen for community’. Port Angeles doesn’t get the recognition that it should. I can’t wait to go receive it and bring it back and get a really nice photo op of everyone that’s put a lot of work into that park and, it’ll be great.”
Representatives for Erickson Playfield and the Parks & Recreation Department will be recognized at the WRPA Annual Awards Banquet in Spokane on May 18th.
