The Port Angeles Roughriders fastpitch team started the season as they did last year blowing out Anacortes 12-1 and Sehome 18-0.  Cheyenne Zimmer, the only Roughrider returning pitcher with significant high school pitching experience from last year,  got the start against Anacortes and went 3 innings with 6 strike outs.

The tradition of a powerful Roughrider line up that terrorizes Olympic League pitchers will again be the case. Roughrider Eastern Oregon-bound Lily Halberg in the 2 game series went 6 for 8 with a double, a 3-run HR and knocked in 8 runs. Junior Natalie

Robinson went 4 for 6 with a double a triple and 3 RBIs. Abby Kimball had a grand slam home run with 5 RBIs. Taylor Worthington went 2 of 3 with a home run and 2 RBIs. Teanna Clark went 2 for 2 with 2 RBIs. Ali Money went 2 for 3 with an RBI.

The Roughriders travel to Gig Harbor tonight with the first pitch at 6 pm.

In baseball action Sequim beat Forks 3-2 and Cross Point 9-4. Port Angeles lost to Shelton 5-2.

In soccer action, the Roughriders earned 2 wins over the weekend. For the first time since 2018 the Roughriders beat Sequim. Roughrider senior Keane McClain scored in

the 36th minute to give the Roughriders the 1-0 win.

On Saturday, the Roughriders came from behind to beat Klahowya 2-1. The Miller brothers did all the damage the Roughriders needed. Down 1-0, Mathew Miller scored on an assist from his brother Jacob.

The pair came right back at the 76th minute with Mathew scoring on a header from a perfect pass again from Jacob. a

The Lane Titans won a thrilling overtime victory 92-90 over Peninsula to advance to the finals at the NWAC Women’s Basketball Championship, presented by Sun Pacific Energy, on Saturday at Holden Court.

With just six seconds remaining, the Titans (31-1, 15-1 South) drew up the game winning play as they setup Toni Coleman on the inbounds pass and a lane to the net as she finished with the layup with three seconds to play. The Titans held off Peninsula’s half-court shot to win and advance to the finals.

Peninsula (22-5, 12-2 North) played an outstanding game and hit clutch shuts down the stretch to force overtime and keep the score tied in overtime. Down by three, Chasity Selden knocked down all three free throws after drawing a shooting foul with 6.3 seconds to play, forcing Lane to hit their eventual game-winning shot. At the end of regulation, Adam Kaganak hit the game-tying three pointer with just over three seconds left to force overtime.
