YAKIMA — Finally, all the media hype, practice sessions and send-offs are over. It’s time to tip it off and that’s what the #8 seed 20-3 Sequim Wolves will do tonight taking on the #16 seed 19-6 Sammamish RedHawks at the State 2A basketball tournament at the Yakima SunDome. According to the WIAA archives, this is very unfamiliar territory for the Wolves. The archives say this is only the 3rd state tournament entry in school history. The last state tournament was in 2019 and Sequim has never won a state tournament game.

Sammamish is even worse, with just one entry in 2015 and the RedHawks went 0-2 that year. So, something must give tonight. Tonight’s winner will play #7 seed White River in a quarter final game tomorrow night at 9 pm. Tomorrow night’s winner reserves a spot in Friday night’s semi final for a trip to Saturday nights state championship game.

The further you advance in Yakima the crowds will get bigger the pressure is expanded and there is more media coverage. It all comes down to tonight’s 32 minutes 4 quarters of basketball to find out who wants it the most. A pack of howling Wolves would not want it any other way.

You can hear all the live action tonight on KONP Newsradio and on the stream at myclallamcounty.com. the Les Schwab Tires pre-game show starts at 8:45 pm with the tip off at 9 pm. Oly Archibald has the play by play.

In NWAC action tonight, it will be an emotional packed night at Peninsula College as the Pirates say good bye to a total of 13 Sophomores. A couple of Pirates, including Millie Long, Itua Tuisaula and Roosevelt Williams Jr., could go down in school history as some of the greatest Pirates of all time.

The Pirates host Everett tonight and a win by the Pirate women will give them the Northern Conference Championship. The Women will tip off at 5 pm, the men at 7 pm. The NWAC tournament will begin next Wednesday in Pasco. KONP Newsradio will broadcast all of the Pirate games.
