SEQUIM – The City of Sequim’s Fourth Annual Sunshine Festival starts this Friday.

Marketing Coordinator Patsene Dashiell says they’ve put a lot of work into making this year’s event bigger and better than ever.

“And we think that people are ready to come outdoors and celebrate. So, we have lots of fun things for people to do. Some of the things are indoors, some of the things are outdoors, there’ll be music and food and light exhibits and painting and crafts. Lots of things for families to do.”

Maybe the most popular element of the festival also happens to be the grand finale on Saturday at 7:00pm in Carrie Blake Park. Dashiell says, if you liked it before, you’ll love it this year.

“Our drone show has been a very popular part of the festival, and the drone show is back this year with twice as many drones. So, we’re really excited about that. But yes, the drone show is visible from just about any location in the park.”

Also popular is the Sun Fun Color Run. Once again, they’ll host a 5K run and a 1K run. For newcomers, organizer Victoria Jones explains how it works.

“The 5K will start first at 11:am. They’ll go out as a mass start. That is a timed race. The participants of the 5K will get to go through eight different color blast stations with five different colors. The color is just a combination of cornstarch and dyes, so it’s extremely safe. After the 5K starts, we then do the 1K start, and they will have three color stations. This is an extremely family-friendly event. We do ask that you leave your four-legged friends at home, though.”
