SEQUIM – The deaths of a Sequim couple, whose bodies were found in their shared apartment on February 2, do not appear to be suspicious, nor do they appear to be associated with drug use. That’s according to Clallam County Prosecutor and Coroner Mark Nichols, though he did tell KONP that he was awaiting the results of another toxicology report before making a final determination.

Investigators say, at the present time, 57-year-old Sheila Leach and 51-year-old Monty Plank appear to have died of natural causes at essentially the same time in the same room of their apartment.

Relatives of both Leach and Plank asked police to do a welfare check on the couple on February 2 at their residence at the Mountain Court Apartments on S. Fifth Avenue in Sequim. Neither family had been able to reach the couple by phone or in person for several days. A neighbor told police that the last time he’d seen either one was on January 26.

Police entered the apartment using a key they obtained from the manager and found the deceased couple in the master bedroom. Investigators say there was no sign of foul play or a struggle of any kind, and the initial toxicology screening showed no presence of either drugs or alcohol in their systems.
