With the #1 seed Sequim Wolves going into their semi final match up with #9 seed Enumclaw, even the biggest Wolves fans wondered just how good this team really was. The biggest Sequim Wolves win were over 1B Neah Bay, and Port Angeles with a #17 ranking and Anacortes with a 21 RPI ranking.
Well, after Sequim came from behind and out scored Enumclaw 39-25 in the 2nd half for the 60-55 win, the wondering is over. Down by 9 points at the half 30-21, the Wolves came out of the locker-room with much more energy and ran off the first 6 straight points of the 2nd half and out scored the Hornets 18 -12 in the 3rd Quarter. The win over a talented well coached Hornet team was truly a team effort. The biggest hero was 5’8″ sophomore Libby Turella. Late in the game Turella playing near the half court stripe on the Wolves half court trap noticed that the Hornets would always reverse the ball on her side of the floor. So like a NFL defensive back, Turella came out of no where and picked off two Hornet passes. Turella hit 5 pressure-packed free throws in the last 2 minutes to seal the deal. Turella, with Hannah Bates, led the Wolves with 13 points. Jolene Vaara was another big spark scoring 10 of her 12 points in the 2nd half. 5’9 Senior Sammie Bacon was left open in the first half by the Hornets who were double teaming Jelissa Julmist. Bacon made the Hornets pay, hitting outside shots for 8 points. Both Jelissa Julmist and Bobbi Mixon had 7 points.
