PORT ANGELES — One of the most popular football players in the history of Washington Husky football, will join Oly Archibald on Tuesday night’s Port Angeles girls basketball district playoff game against Renton on Newsradio KONP.

Deontae Cooper, who is the current successful and popular head football coach at Highline High School, will handle the color commentary and game analyst duties for the Roughrider broadcast.

Cooper was a high school All-American 4-star running back out of Citrus High School in Perris, California. One publication had Cooper ranked the 13th best running back in the country. At the UW, Cooper suffered 3 ACL injuries in 2 years but was able to rehab and make it on the field for the Huskies and was a team captain. Cooper’s most memorable game was a 166-yard performance on 11 carries for an average of 15 yards per carry and 2 TDs at Oregon State. Cooper received the prestigious UW football “Guy Flaherty Award” as the Huskies most inspirational player.

Cooper took over the head football coaching position at Highline High School and has turned the Pirates into a power, winning three straight league championships. Before Cooper took over the Highline job, you have to go back to the 50s to find a Highline championship.

The Les Schwab Tires pre-game show will start at 5:45 pm and will be broadcast live on KONP 1450 AM, FM 101.7/Port Angeles, FM 101.3/Sequim, and online on the KONP stream at myclallamcounty.com.
