PORT ANGELES — The brackets are set for the District 2/3 2A basketball tournaments with both Sequim teams getting first round games at home while the Roughriders will be on the road.

The Sequim girls are the #1 seed,  they will be big favorites against  Clover Park at home tomorrow night with the tip off at 6 pm. The Roughriders are the #6 seed they will travel to Renton tomorrow night with a 6 pm tip off. You can hear that game on Newsradio  KONP. Oly Archibald and former Washington Husky Deontae Cooper will have the play by play.

In the boys bracket, the Sequim Wolves are the #10 seed and will start in the losers bracket at home Wednesday night against #15 seed Lindbergh with a 6 pm tip off. The Roughriders are the #6 seed they will travel to #3 seed Enumclaw Wednesday night for a 6 pm tip off against the Hornets. You can hear that game on Newsradio KONP. The Port Angeles Roughriders wrestling team will send five of their student athletes to the “Mat Classic” in Tacoma. For the girls, Julia Baeder finished 2nd in district and Faye Dachs finished 3rd.  For the boys: Alex Burrows, Raymond Rodriguez and Ethan Abrams all finished 4th in district.

The Port Angeles Athletic Department announced their baseball and fastpitch head coach hires. The baseball team will be coached by Zach Moore, the fastpitch team will be coached by Morgan Worthington.

The Peninsula Pirates basketball teams split at home Saturday afternoon as the 2nd ranked Pirate men were shocked by Shoreline 57-56. The cold-shooting Pirates shot just 39% from the field. Esa Onakpoma led the Pirates with 15 points. Malik Jackson hit for 14 and Roosevelt Williams Jr. had 11 points. The Pirates are still two games up on 2nd place Edmonds. The Pirates are 8-1 in conference and 21-2 overall.

The Pirate women’s team was a game behind Shoreline and having already lost at Shoreline, the Pirates needed a win to have a chance at another Northern Conference Championship. Pirate sophomore point guard Millie Long made sure that was going to happen, as Long hit for 34 points to go with 4 assists and 6 rebounds as the Pirates had no problem with the Dolphins in a 79-64 win.

Jenilee Donovan hit for 12 points and Chasity Selden had 11 points. The Pirates are now in a 3-way tie for 1st place with Shoreline and Skagit Valley, all with 7-2 records. The Pirates head to Skagit Valley on Wednesday.
