PORT ANGELES – The city of Port Angeles is reaching out to the public for ideas that could lead to changes in city code regarding housing.

Monday, the city hosts a workshop for residents to give ideas and feedback. The workshop will be held at the Port Angeles Library from 3-7 pm.

City manager Nathan West says this is one way the city hopes to incorporate public ideas into ways to address the city’s housing issues.

“It’s so important that we take the time to listen to what members of the public have have to say on these subjects. And you know, it impacts them, it impacts their neighborhood.  how we actually implement at the end of the day. And many of them are out there in the real world and and really may have some great suggestions and ideas that transition us or put us in a really good place for success of more housing in this community, which is has been a priority for the city for a long time,” said West.

Additionally, the city is asking residents to take a survey ahead of the workshop. The online survey is available at: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/HousingForAll.

City officials say they expect Port Angeles to grow by about five thousand people in the next 20 years. However, local construction activity has slowed. Some of that may be due to limited flexibility in the city’s current zoning code making it tough to build middle-income housing.
