SEQUIM – The Clallam County Sheriff’s Chief Criminal Deputy Brian King reported Tuesday that a 911 call came in Monday at around 1:00pm from a residence on Miller Peninsula east of Sequim.

The reporting party said that a 1-year-old baby was not breathing and that persons on site had been smoking fentanyl around him. They said they had administered Narcan to the baby.

Clallam County Fire District 3 Medics along with deputies responded to the scene in the 700 block of Fireweed Road and found the child deceased.

The child’s mother, 36-year-old Crystal Coffman, was arrested and held without bail on suspicion of manslaughter. She was released without bail Tuesday afternoon pending further investigation.

Because several others were present at the home, King anticipates it will be a lengthy investigation. He said there are a lot of unanswered questions and investigators will be relying on the autopsy and forensic testing to get many of those answers.
