PORT ANGELES – Two weeks into the downtown Port Angeles Winter Ice Village, and organizers say attendance is breaking records.

But they need more volunteers to keep the ice-skating facility operating smoothly.

The Port Angeles Chamber of Commerce organizes the annual rink operation. Chamber Director Marc Abshire says the number or people using the rink is more than in the past.

“We have exuberance in terms of participation, we have we’re breaking records in terms of number of skaters. We’ve been open 10 days now, breaking records in skaters”

But Abshire says they need more volunteers to keep up with the volume.

“We’re going the opposite direction on the volunteers. So we really need volunteers. We need  to handle the volume. It gets critical if we’re missing a volunteer in a particular station. So, for a full-on Saturday night, we probably need seven, volunteers per shift.”

Each three-hour shift you volunteer earns a day-long pass for skating. The passes can be transferred to anyone you wish. You can get more information at wintericevillage.com.
