PORT ANGELES – The Port Angeles School District is still critically low on paraeducators and substitute teachers, and they are calling on parents, grandparents and others to consider lending a hand.

At this point the District is resorting to using principals, district administrators, and other school staff to lead classrooms.

In a letter sent out Friday to all district families, school officials said if they can’t fill the vacant positions, canceling classes or classrooms may be necessary.

The wages for paraeducators, depending on experience, range from $21.68 to $28.33 per hour. These positions also provide full benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life, and State retirement. Click here to learn more or apply to become a para!

As for substitutes, many people can qualify for an emergency substitute certificate, allowing them to earn $150 a day teaching, plus bonus pay. Click here to learn more or apply to become a sub.

Paraeducator substitutes start at $17.55 an hour.
