PORT ANGELES – The clock is ticking for non-profits and other organizations to apply for a share of what the Port Angeles Lodging Tax Advisory Committee says is the largest Lodging Tax budget in our city’s history, to the tune of over $764,000.
The Lodging Tax Fund, also known as the heads-in-beds tax, is the primary source of City funding for activities designed to increase local tourism, and is collected from those who stay in our hotels, motels and short term rentals, not from local taxpayers.
In a news release Thursday, the committee said the budget has increased every year since 2015, except in 2020 because of the pandemic.
Now is the time for the annual Request for Proposals process, which is open to public and non-profit agencies that can bring more visitors to Port Angeles.
RFPs must be submitted to the City by 5:00 p.m. on October 7. Proposals will be reviewed by the committee on October 27 and November 3. Recommendations for final allocation of the 2023 budget will be reviewed by City Council later this winter.
